The process of setting up a direct debit is automated, and takes a few business days. There is nothing I can do to speed it up. I do not know the exact amount of time it will take. (You can see more details here.)

You will not receive an email now, you will only receive an email a few days before the first payment is taken. The timing for the direct debit appearing on the account may be shorter than the time required until the first payment is taken. Some bank offers may not require a payment having been taken, only the direct debit appearing on the account.

You can cancel the direct debit whenever you wish, as guaranteed by the direct debit guarantee. You can cancel any time through your bank. It is quick and easy to do online (it may be in the ‘regular payments’ section). Alternatively, you can call your bank.
